No Experience? Here’s How to Land an Internship in Nigeria

I remember as a student, patiently anticipating the time when I would get to put all I have learnt in school to good use. I thought it would be a walk in the park, finish school, get good grades, NYSC, and then get a nice paying job.

LOL, I was quickly hit by the underemployment and unemployment wave. Every entry-level role I applied for needed 2–3 years of experience. I didn't even have 1 year of experience, unless I count my NYSC, which I did in a primary school, and we all know how that is. The entire process was nothing to write home about. The sad part is that this is still the reality of thousands of recent graduates in Nigeria.

Anyways, the hack I found was internships (to be honest, I didn't discover this on time). The amazing thing about internships is that they don't require you to have any prior experience; all they really need is someone who is willing to learn and put in the work.

I never did any internships while in school. In fact, the whole internship thing seemed like a far-fetched idea that happened only in more modernized economies. Looking back, I really wish I knew more about internships early enough, or maybe if there was a website like interns.ng back then, it would have been a better experience for me.
